Explore the highlights of South Korea on this journey from Seoul to the DMZ and the port cities of Gyeongju and Busan. As you travel through the country’s highlights, you’ll visit medieval palaces and Buddhist temples, peer over the DMZ into North Korea, and experience the natural beauty of Korea’s south coast.

This 8-day Korean vacation takes you from the capital, Seoul, to the DMZ and the coastal cities of Gyeongju and Busan. International airfare is included in the price.

Your trip to Korea begins in Seoul, South Korea’s capital city. With over 25 million people in its metropolitan area, Seoul is one of the largest cities on the planet, a fact that is immediately apparent upon arrival. Large crowds and bustling malls are commonplace facts of life in Seoul. But with its size comes an immense vibrancy, especially as the city seamlessly blends the past and the present. You’ll find medieval palaces and Buddhist temples sitting comfortably alongside all-night game joints and karaoke bars. On your first full day in Seoul, you’ll head on a city tour to see some of the city’s icons. Start at Gwanghwamun Gate, where you’ll witness the ceremonial Changing of the Guard. Continue to Gyeongbokgung, one of the most beautiful medieval palaces in the country, before heading to the Blue House, home of the president. You’ll then get some shopping in at Indasong-gil and Myeongdong District before getting in touch with the traditions of Korea’s past at the Hamsangol Hanok Village. The next day, head on a street food tour to sample Seoul’s enviable culinary scene. Start at the Gwangjang Traditional Market to sample some street food. Continue to Cheonggyecheon Stream to experience a touch of nature in the heart of the city before heading to Deoksugung Palace and finishing at Dongdaemun Desing Plaza, the urban development landmark that captures the city’s futuristic energy.

Continue your Korean vacation by heading north to the DMZ, which splits North Korea and South Korea. Enter the Third Infiltration Tunnel to learn about the Korean War and head to the Dora Observation Platform to peer into North Korea and spot the Peace Village, which the North built for propaganda purposes. After returning to Seoul for the night, you’ll pass onto the coast to Gyeongju, which was the capital of the Silla Dynasty for a thousand years. Explore the Cheomseongdae Observatory and see the tombs of ancient rulers at the Daereungwon Tomb Complex. Close out your time in Gyeongju with a visit to the Gyeongju National Museum and take in Bulguksa Temple, with its famous pagodas.

You’ll close out your Korean tour in Busan, the second largest city in the country and home to large docklands, gorgeous beaches, and a growing international culture. You’ll tour the city, heading from Youngdusan Park and Busan Tower to the Jagalchi Fishery Market and the UN Memorial Cemetery, where international soldiers killed during the Korean War are buried. End your tour by heading to Haeundae Beach, where you’ll get a taste of the natural beauty that draws people to Busan for the domestic holidays each year. The following day, return to Seoul to connect back home.
